Deborah Truhowsky actually started her legal career in international business and tax law. It was during an internship in Sweden that she first worked in litigation, an experience that literally changed her life as she decided to make this her primary practice area.
Deborah worked for 20 years at a personal injury law firm where she led their elder neglect and abuse unit and was a partner for over 15 years. In 2010, she opened her own firm to focus on her passion for protecting and securing maximum compensation for victims, primarily those of elder neglect and abuse.
Deborah is a staunch and committed advocate of the elderly. She lectures frequently on matters relating to elder neglect and abuse, and has been asked to give testimony on the subject at a government hearing.
She is President of the Board of Directors of the Long Term Care Community Coalition, a nonprofit policy and advocacy organization that works to protect the rights and welfare of those in long term care, and is a member of The Orion Resource Group, a community of professionals dedicated to helping the elderly thrive with dignity, respect, and a superior quality of life.
She has also received the Circle of Giving Award from the New York Foundation for Senior Citizens Long Term Care Ombudsman Program for her work on behalf of the elderly.
Deborah is admitted to practice both in New York and Connecticut, as well as the U.S. District Court in the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, and previously served on the Board of Directors of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association and the New York State Academy of Trial Lawyers.
She has earned the prestigious peer-awarded AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell for legal competence and ethical standards and is a member of the National Trial Lawyers’ Top 100 Trial Lawyers.
Deborah has a J.D. degree from Hofstra Law School, a Master’s of Law degree in international business and taxation from the University of the Pacific McGeorge School of Law, and a Bachelor’s degree from New York University.
